Lebanon-Egypt Spring Festival going on!

These days, the theatre and music Spring Festival is being held. (See the program here.) This is celebrated simoultaneously in Egypt and Lebanon, in the Egyptian cities of Cairo, Alexandria, Minya, and Assiut, and in Lebanon at the Horsh and the Sunflower Theatre in Beirut and Beit El Fan in Tripoli. Punch may be different, such as theater magician Neville Tranter shows with his newest production ‘Punch & Judy in Afghanistan’. Noriko Nishimoto: UNIMA Women’s Commission Award

We are happy to announce that master puppeteer Noriko Nishimoto wins one of the highest international awards in the world of puppetry. The UNIMA Women’s Commission will acknowledge Noriko’s outstanding international Contribution to Puppetry at the 21st UNIMA World Congress and Puppet Festival in Chengdu, China in May 2012. Noriko was involved with Australian Spare Parts Puppet Theatre for 19 years, beginning in 1981 when she was invited from Japan as guest artist in the company’s first show, Faust for the 1981 Festival of Perth. The Big Grin – a national celebration of Mr. Punch’s 350th Birthday

With this headline, the grand celebration of Mr. Punch’s anniversary has been announced. It will take place on Saturday 12th May in London’s Covent Garden Piazza, right where Samuel Pepys said he saw the character back in 1662. This is the first written record of Punch, as one can read on the commemorative plaque that was set up in 1962. The event looks promisingly bright, colourful and festive.
