Founded in 1993, A Tarumba is a prestigious Portuguese company based in Lisbon. Its members started with the legendary company “Bonecos de Sao Lourenzo.” In their already long career, A Tarumba has created several successful shows with marionettes, but also with other, varied techniques. Their productions are characterized by the rigour of their work, with high quality dramaturgy and staging.

Their flagship titles are ” A Ascensao e queda da cidade de Mahagonny” (Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny), “A Tempestade” (The Tempest), “Dr. Faustus” and “Amor de D. Perlimplín com Belisa no seu Jardim” (Federico García Lorca’s, The Love of Don Perlimplín with Belisa in his Garden). A Tarumba has also worked with shadows and object theatre; one of their most recent productions – a great hit with the public – is “Mirenoscópio: A Máquina do Amor”, ironically inspired by old “peep shows”. Inside small boxes, tableaux and brief tales are performed. A tribute to the Voyeurism of late nineteenth century mechanical theatre.
